History of Motocross Bikes

Camberley, Surrey, United Kingdom witnesses a different type of motorcycle racing in the year of 1924 and this was the beginning of a new era in the history of motorcycle sports. The sport was nothing other than freestyle motocross racing which is one of the most popular racing events in the world.
The events held in Britain became very active and popular because very motorcycle manufacturing giants such as Norton, AJS and BSA competed in the race which attracted attention from the general public. The heavy four stroke British motorcycles were creating history by this sport.

By the 1930s, Britain took the game even further by adding competitions in district level and regional level. This ensured that at least one motocross racing is held in the country during a month and this made everyone quite familiar with the sport. Compared to the regular street bikes, these heavy four stroke motorcycles didn't have much difference.
This is also considered as a reason for the popularity of the sport. By 1950s, Swing arms were introduced to motorcycles, which are considered as a revolutionary step in the history of motorcycling. The comfort level for motorcycles has changed drastically and the riders were able to push their machines even further.

By 1952, the first championship outside Great Britain was held and the name of this championship was European Championship. This is the championship which was upgraded to World Championship status by the end of 1950s. In 1962, the world of motocross saw another revolutionary product.
It was nothing other than the lightweight 250 cc two stroke motorcycles and the destiny of motocross racing was getting changed forever. The four stroke motorcycles with higher cubic capacity but unbearable heavy weight were making its way for these motorcycles very slowly.

When Suzuki claimed the first motocross title in 1970, it was the beginning of a new era. Unlike manufacturers from Europe and America, Japanese makers contributed a lot to the sport by constantly updating the two stroke motorcycles.
The motorcycles that were featuring air cooling technology were replaced with water cooled engines, which resulted in motorcycles with higher horsepower and better heat resistance. The revolutionary step changed the destiny of motocross and also gave opportunity for Japanese motorcycle makers to dominate the sport.
There were two stroke motorcycles from Japan that had enormous output and torque. These motorcycles gave the rider utmost control on the terrain and many manufacturer's titles were won by Japanese companies.

However, motocross industry slowly replaced the two strokes by the 1990s because the strict emission rules were very hard to comply with two stroke motorcycles.
Today, motocross racing has indoor stadium arena events and super cross races such as Paris Dakar is also held.
Freestyle motocross riders perform stunts on the motorcycles and for these stunts, riding speed is not the determining factor of each win in the race. There is no doubt that this sport is one of the most enjoyable events in the history of motorcycle riding all over the world.
